You may have heard quite a bit about this word “anti-inflammatory” lately. People are taking medicine daily just to get the benefits. But why not go the all natural route by making a smoothie instead!

Inflammation is a natural occurrence that happens in all humans.  It’s your body’s response to help fight off infections, bruises, cuts or any external attack on your body (i.e a fever is your body raising the heat so any guests overstaying their welcome leave).

Wait, so if this is good, why all the focus on “anti-inflammation?” Like most things, too much of a good thing isn’t so good at all.  

What Is Chronic Inflammation?

Inflammation that occurs continuously in the body is response of your immune system, and can be an indicator of overall poor health. If left untreated, this chronic disorder can lead to more serious health problems, like heart disease, arthritis, and cancer.

The most common reason for chronic inflammation happens to be the one most easily controlled: our diet.

How To Fight Inflammation

First… avoid anything highly-processed and/or full of sugar.

You might not like to hear this but put down that glass of wine or beer as alcohol is a contributor.

Blueberries

​These small little flavor bombs are filled with a compound called flavonoid, which signals antioxidant effects in your cells. These antioxidants are a key component to fighting inflammation and promoting overall health.

Ginger and Turmeric

Not what you commonly think of in smoothies,these two spics and their sweet-spicy-savory flavor is addicting way to add some great flavor to your smoothie. More importantly, their anti-inflammatory properties have been talked about for generations across the globe.

Anti-Inflam Berry Slam

  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 banana
  • 1 small handful frozen peaches
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon chia seeds
  • 1 teaspoon raw honey (or more to taste)
  • Ice as needed

Sweet Blue Dream

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/2 cup blueberries
  • 1 banana
